900 bærekraftige treboliger

Wendelstrand Flermannsboliger - Trästaden Lakegatan 9 is a large-scale residential construction project situated in Mölnlycke, where a decommissioned stone quarry is being transformed into one of Europe's largest wooden housing developments. Approximately 900 sustainable wooden homes are planned across a total area of about 170,000 square meters, aiming to establish a modern, climate-smart residential community adjacent to Landvettersjön lake. The landmark building in the area, called Lakehouse, will host amenities such as a restaurant, coworking offices, and a gym that will serve the new neighborhood's residents.

Likestilt partnerskap og Snøhetta

The project is a joint venture between two experienced construction companies, Next Step Group and BRA Bygg, which have collaborated for over a decade and now hold equal ownership stakes of 50 percent each. BRA Bygg, known for its extensive expertise in wooden construction, leads the implementation, while both companies share a unified vision emphasizing timber as the key material to achieve ambitious climate goals. The architectural concept for the project has been developed by the acclaimed Norwegian firm Snøhetta, which brings a forward-thinking approach to combining sustainability with appealing urban design.

Godkjent reguleringsplan og byggestart

An important milestone was reached when Härryda municipality approved the developer-driven detailed zoning plan, enabling the project to progress to construction starting in the second quarter of 2020. The plan finalization followed a thorough planning phase to ensure environmental and social considerations are integrated. By revitalizing a neglected industrial site into a thriving residential area built primarily from wood, the project not only reduces carbon emissions compared to conventional construction methods but also enhances the local environment and community wellbeing.

Tre reduserer karbonavtrykk

The environmental focus of the Wendelstrand project is significant, with the use of timber helping to lower the overall carbon footprint of the construction and the built environment. This approach supports broader climate targets by leveraging wood’s renewable properties and carbon storage capacity. The initiative demonstrates the potential societal benefits of sustainable urban renewal, both by mitigating climate impact and providing healthy, attractive living spaces in a natural lakeside setting.

Risiko håndteres gjennom samarbeid

Despite the promising nature of wooden construction, the project requires careful management of risks such as ensuring durability, fire safety, and construction logistics on the challenging quarry site. The long-standing collaboration between the contractors, along with engagement from the local municipality, helps mitigate these risks through well-established processes and shared commitment to quality and sustainability.
