Kontrakt inngått med kinesisk verft

Frøy has entered into a contract with the Chinese shipyard Nantong Rainbow Offshore & Engineering Equipment Co., Ltd. for the construction of two advanced 4,500 cubic meter live fish carrier vessels (brønnbåter). These two vessels are the first in a planned series, with options secured for an additional four vessels to be built in line with market developments and customer demand. This initiative forms part of Frøy’s long-term strategic focus on developing future solutions for the aquaculture industry.

NextGen-design for fisketrygghet

The vessels will be built based on Frøy's NextGen-design platform, which is also used for boats constructed in Europe. This design emphasizes fish welfare, biosafety, energy efficiency, and operational flexibility. The NextGen platform integrates extensive operational experience along with ongoing technological advancements, allowing customization to meet specific customer requirements, including varied delousing technologies. This approach aims to enhance the performance, sustainability, and adaptability of the vessels.

Grundig evaluering før verftsvalg

The decision to select a Chinese shipyard followed a thorough evaluation conducted throughout 2025, where 17 international shipyards were assessed on technical capabilities, financial stability, and integrity criteria with external advisory support. Frøy highlights that choosing the Chinese yard guarantees access to world-leading shipbuilding capacity combined with the necessary quality and control. Although the ships will be built in China, a large portion of the value creation and project oversight will remain in Norway through design, technological development, project management, and deliveries from Norwegian subcontractors.

Leveranse i 2029 og posisjonering

The project represents a significant step towards advancing the Norwegian aquaculture sector by combining global shipbuilding capacity with Norwegian expertise in aquaculture, maritime technology, and fish welfare. The delivery of the first two vessels is scheduled for 2029, with the ambition for Frøy to become the preferred partner in the aquaculture industry by providing modern, sustainable vessels tailored to future requirements.
