Moderne underholdningskompleks i Uppsala

The Filmstaden Cinema and Entertainment Complex is a major construction project located in the city center of Uppsala, Sweden. Commissioned by Uppsala Akademiförvaltning, the development is designed to create a modern, multifunctional entertainment hub while revitalizing an important urban space. The complex will cover approximately 7,700 square meters, housing a cinema with 13 screening halls, along with commercial spaces and restaurants. Additionally, the project involves renovating an existing two-level underground parking garage, integrating it seamlessly with the new structure. The building itself rises six stories and is situated on Dragarbrunnsgatan, a narrow and active street in the city center.

Kontraktsverdi 330 MNOK. Innovativ fasade

Arcona AB, a subsidiary of Veidekke, has been awarded the contract for this turnkey project, valued at approximately 330 million Swedish kronor. The project benefits from Arcona’s extensive experience with complex urban developments. Sweco is responsible for the architectural design, which emphasizes both aesthetic and functional elements. The construction combines frame and façade work to deliver a visually striking building. Special attention is given to the façade, which features a combination of refined lamellas, equitone cladding, ceramic tile cladding, and glazed sections designed to reflect and complement the architectural beauty of Uppsala’s cityscape.

Tekniske og logistiske utfordringer

From a construction perspective, the project involves several technical and logistical challenges. Building a six-story structure above an existing two-level parking garage requires careful engineering, especially to ensure structural stability. Acoustic considerations are critical due to the cinema's requirements, necessitating precise adjustments to the building frame to meet strict soundproofing standards. Furthermore, the narrow and busy street location demands meticulous planning for logistics and material handling to minimize disruption and safety risks throughout the construction period.

Byggestart juni 2021. Ferdig 2024

Construction work commenced in June 2021, with an anticipated completion date in February 2024. This timeline allows for the complex coordination of building activities, interior fit-out for the cinema halls, and renovation of the parking garage. Although specific environmental strategies were not detailed, the choice of materials and urban location align with sustainable city development goals by promoting cultural activities and efficient land use in a central area.

Nytt kultursenter med samfunnsnytte

The new Filmstaden complex is expected to provide significant societal benefits by offering a new cultural and social gathering point in Uppsala’s city center. It supports the local economy through the creation of commercial and leisure spaces, encouraging increased foot traffic and vibrancy in the downtown area. Uppsala Akademiförvaltning and the involved partners view the project as a key contribution to a lively urban environment, reinforcing Uppsala’s position as a regional cultural hub.
