Kontrakt på 129 MNSEK

AF Bygg Väst, a subsidiary of AF Gruppen Sverige, has been awarded a turnkey contract worth SEK 129 million excluding VAT by the Port of Gothenburg (Göteborgs Hamn) to build a new power station in Skandiahamnen. This project marks the first collaboration between AF Gruppen and the Port of Gothenburg. The contract includes both design and construction responsibilities, positioning AF Bygg Väst as the main contractor for the full scope of works.

Transformatorstasjon for landstrøm

The project involves the construction of a transformer station with an incoming electricity capacity of 19 MVA. This facility is designed to provide Onshore Power Supply (OPS), or land-based electrical power, to ships in the container, RoPax, and cruise segments at Skandiahamnen harbor. The infrastructure will enable multiple berth connections and is intended to comply with upcoming legal requirements set to take effect in 2030, mandating OPS availability to reduce emissions from vessels while docked.

Bygging 2025-2027

Construction is planned to commence in the second quarter of 2025 and is expected to be completed by March 2027. This timeline allows the Port of Gothenburg to prepare for the 2030 deadline, ensuring readiness for stricter environmental regulations on shipping emissions. The project supports the harbor’s strategic environmental goals by facilitating a reduction in CO₂, sulfur oxides, and nitrogen oxides emissions from ships using electricity from the mainland grid instead of onboard fossil fuels.

Støtter grønnere havnedrift

The power station project is a critical step towards greener port operations and sustainable maritime activity in Gothenburg. By enabling shore power capabilities, it supports the EU’s more stringent rules for larger vessels to connect to land power when berthed, thereby significantly reducing air pollution in the port area. This contributes positively to climate goals and improves air quality for the local community.

Risiko: teknisk og tidsplan

Key risk considerations for the project include technical and scheduling challenges inherent in delivering a high-capacity electrical infrastructure on time and to specification, as well as coordination with port operations to minimize disruption. The turnkey nature of the contract places the onus on AF Bygg Väst to manage these risks and ensure a seamless handover of a fully operational facility.

Viktig for grønn skipsfart

Overall, the Skandiahamnen Göteborg Power Station Project is a vital infrastructure development contributing to Sweden’s green transition in the maritime sector while aligning with international and EU environmental standards. It will provide essential capacity to the port’s OPS system, supporting cleaner shipping and enhancing Gothenburg's competitiveness as an environmentally responsible port.
